Art Assignment #1 - Draw SOMETHING!

As an artist, I like a challenge. Sometimes I am totally not ready for the challenge, but I take it head on anyway.

For my first art assignment at the U of L, my professor told us to "draw something by next week. Spend about 3 - 4 hours on it."

Sounds simple, right?

WRONG!

If you don't know me well, let me sum it up for you. Not only am I an artist, but I'm also a perfectionist. This combination isn't always the greatest, especially when you're told to "draw something." Something... No specified subject. Do you know how many subjects there are to draw in the world? INFINITE!!! And being a perfectionist, I want to draw the RIGHT something. But what?

I had to think about what I wanted to draw for a good long while... I figured I should draw something I'm familiar with, but I still wanted a challenge. I thought I should draw something that shows my personality a bit, but I didn't want it too obvious.

Four days after being given my assignment, I was thinking about it and thought I should draw something that I love... I love Halloween... I love bats.... I love Halloween AND bats! They go perfectly together! And since Halloween is just around the corner, I figured, WHY NOT!

So, here is a step by step of my drawing. Say hi to my little bat.... still coming up with a name for her...

Approx. time it took was 4-5 hours
