Assignment # 7 - Cyanotype Paper

Image
This one was a bit of a headache. Cyanotype paper is a paper that has a development chemcial on it that allows you to create images by placing objects (or negatives) on top of the paper and leaving it out in the sun for a certain period of time. To stop the development you are supposed to rinse the paper with water.  The first attempts of this was a huge fail.  I first attempted two different methods to create paper that was somewhat see-through. The White Rabbit on the left was oiled, the Dodo was covered in beeswax. I left them on the windowsill as it was too windy to place them outside. My second attempt I placed several pieces of jewelry on a sheet.. When I rinsed the sheets, this is what I got: A blank piece of paper... FAIL!!! I partially blame the fact that it was not sunny enough, needed more direct sunlight, and I tried a different method of rinsing them. This time I got much better results. I started with the Test Strips this time. I placed thin strips of tape ...

Assignment 6.2 - Landscape Collage

Another Collage day! Well, this one went a lot smoother than last week's, even though there was more involved with this one. In total, this one probably took me about 10 hours to complete over the week of working on it. Most of it was finding the right images and figuring out where I wanted them. This week's image is somewhat based on the style of artist Sherry Levine shown on the Collage Assignment outline: It is also based on an image I found online: I started by finding a silhouette I thought would fit well with my subject, Canadian Wildlife, and placed guidelines over top of it so I could accurately draw it and cut it out. Then I drew the image and cut it out: Then, I spent hours finding the right images I wanted for my collage. I saved them and sized them to the approx. size I required, and started organizing them on photoshop: I then printed the images and started cutting them out, taking my time with getting as close as I could to the image and making them as detailed a...

Assignment 6 - Collage

Oh gosh... what a tough one this was.  So, before this week, I had never - I SAID NEVER!!!!! - done a collage before. I had never even done a dream board, or even hand written dreams down before. So, when it came to this week's assignment, I had no clue how to start, even after almost a whole week of looking up several collage artists and many many illustrations... Needless to say, but Sunday, I was mentally exhausted. So I kept going back to some of the examples our professor gave us and one of them caught my eye.  Kara Walker. I saw her collages were simple, elegant, mystical, and creative. Simple Silhouettes. So I somewhat based my portrait collage off of her design. I started by finding some scrapbooking paper, a scalpel, and printed off several silhouettes that caught my eye.  After that I used photoshop to place images where I wanted them... Then I cut them out... Then, I touched up some of the discoloration... And, finally glued it together... Title: Me - Ste...
